The tiny island of Diu, situated off the southern tip of the Saurashtra (Kathiawad) peninsula of Gujarat,
lapped by the Arabian Sea, is a paradise on Earth. The superb
beaches, fort, mansions, churches and temples are its main attractions.
This
little island, once known as “Gibraltar of the East” was a Portuguese
colony from 16th century onwards. It was added to the Indian union in
1961 and today it is a district of the union territory of Diu & Diu.
