Daman & Diu is a union territory, located on the west coast of
India along the Arabian Sea. These two small coastal areas were a single
union territory along with Goa prior to 1987. When Goa attained full
statehood in 1987, Daman & Diu was made a separate union territory
with its capital at Daman. The UT comprises of two districts namely Daman and Diu.
These
coastal enclaves were under the control of Portuguese for more than
450 years. The enclaves got their independence only on December 19,
1961. But Portugal did not recognize the Indian annexation of these
territories until 1974.
These two coastal districts are very much important from tourism point of view. There are historical monuments, amusement parks, beaches and many more things to rediscover.
